AtariBlast! is a standout homebrew project for the Atari 5200, created by Paul Lay and Harvey A. Kong Tin. Development began around 2013 with an early concept known as GTIA Blast!

originally designed to demonstrate the graphical capabilities of the GTIA chip. As the project evolved, the developers expanded beyond a single graphics mode, leading to the updated title AtariBlast! and a more advanced technical foundation.

The game delivers a fast-paced blend of horizontally and vertically scrolling shooter action, designed as a tribute to iconic arcade classics including R-Type, Scramble, Xevious, and Zaxxon. Across its 15 levels, players experience a mix of scrolling styles that keep gameplay varied and engaging.
