BC’s Quest for Tires on the Atari 5200 – Classic Action from Sierra On-Line

BC’s Quest for Tires is a side-scrolling action game for the Atari 5200, developed by Chuck Benton and published by Sierra On-Line, with later involvement from Atarimax.

Inspired by the long-running comic strip B.C., the game places players in the role of Thor as he sets out to rescue Cute Chick, who has been captured by a dinosaur.

Riding on his distinctive stone wheel, Thor must travel across a series of horizontally scrolling landscapes filled with hazards. These include rocks, trees, rivers, lava pits, cliffs and the well-known Fat Broad character. The gameplay requires precise timing as players must jump or duck to avoid obstacles, with the additional challenge that ducking causes the character to bounce, making early inputs risky.

The game shares similarities with the mechanics of Moon Patrol, particularly in its movement flow and obstacle navigation. BC’s Quest for Tires is recognised for translating comic-strip humour and style into an action-focused format, offering a distinctive blend of charm and challenge that made it a memorable entry in early console gaming.
